Hibiscus Syrup Recipe

INGREDIENTS:

  • 1 cup dried hibiscus flowers

  • 2 cups water

  • 1 cup sugar

INSTRUCTIONS:

  1. Combine Ingredients: In a saucepan, mix the dried hibiscus flowers with water.

  2. Boil and Simmer: Bring the mixture to a boil over medium-high heat. Once boiling, reduce the heat to low and let it simmer for 10-15 minutes, or until the liquid has reduced by half.

  3. Cool and Strain: Remove the saucepan from the heat and allow it to cool for a few minutes. Strain the mixture through a fine mesh sieve or cheesecloth into a clean bowl, pressing the solids to extract maximum liquid. Discard the solids.

  4. Dissolve Sugar: Return the strained liquid to the saucepan, add sugar, and place over medium heat. Stir continuously until the sugar dissolves completely and the syrup thickens slightly, about 5-10 minutes.

  5. Cool and Store: Remove from heat, let the syrup cool completely, then transfer it to a clean, airtight container. Store in the refrigerator for up to 2 weeks.
